Trust and transparency

Simple systems. Clear explanations.

How we work with sources, stories and AI, and what is currently available on the website.

How we approach the questions

We follow questions through research, stories and ordinary observation. We distinguish what a source supports from what we make of it, and from what we imagine. Selected sources accompany researched pieces so you can follow the question further. Our fictional scenes are not reports of real events.

Human judgement and AI

We use AI to help explore ideas, compare sources, develop drafts and create artwork. A human decides what to use and takes responsibility for checking and publishing it. AI can be mistaken. Wayne is our fictional human host; Orion gives a character and voice to an AI assistant.

Supporter payments and privacy

Updated 1 October 2026. Lee Barrett trading as We Could Wonder is responsible for the personal information WCW uses to administer voluntary support. Contact wecouldwonder@gmail.com about your information.

When you choose to contribute, Stripe hosts checkout and the customer portal. Stripe collects the contact, payment and technical information needed to process and secure payments. We receive payment and subscription records, including your email address, amounts, dates, payment status and identifiers, and limited payment-method details such as the card brand and last four digits. Other details you provide through your chosen payment method may also appear in our Stripe records. Our website does not collect or store your full card number or card security code.

We use these records to administer your requested payments and cancellation, answer payment queries, handle refunds and disputes, and keep accounting records. Our lawful bases are our legitimate interests in administering voluntary support and preventing payment misuse, and legal obligations where tax or accounting records must be retained. We use only the information needed for those purposes. A contribution does not enrol you in marketing emails, and we do not sell supporter information.

Stripe processes information both to provide payment services to us and for its own purposes, including fraud prevention and legal compliance. Payment providers and banks involved in your chosen payment method also receive information needed for the transaction. Email queries are handled through our Gmail account. We may share necessary records with professional accounting advisers or authorities where required by law.

Stripe operates internationally and may process information outside the UK. Its privacy policy explains its uses, retention and international safeguards, including applicable adequacy arrangements and contractual safeguards. Gmail is provided by Google; see Google’s privacy policy. Their services have their own privacy and cookie information.

We keep records while administering your support and afterwards only as needed for applicable accounting and tax retention duties, unresolved payment queries, refunds, disputes or legal claims. The relevant statutory retention period and the resolution of outstanding issues determine when records can be deleted. Cancelling a payment arrangement does not automatically delete records we must retain. Stripe may also retain information for its own legal and security obligations.

You may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your information, and object to processing based on legitimate interests, where those rights apply. Contact us to make a request or raise a concern. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. Providing the information needed for payment is optional, but without it we cannot process your contribution; all website reading remains available.

See our supporter terms for renewal, cancellation and payment queries.

Analytics and cookie choices

With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages people read, how visitors reach the site and how they use it. Google receives information such as page visits, browser and device details, and cookie identifiers. We use this information to improve We Could Wonder.

Analytics is off by default. Google’s analytics script only loads after you select Accept analytics. Rejecting it does not affect your access to the website. Advertising storage, advertising personalisation and Google signals are disabled in our implementation.

We remember your choice in your browser’s local storage for up to 180 days. If you accept, Google may set the _ga and _ga_QSTG3N190X cookies to recognise visits; our configuration limits their lifetime to 180 days. Clearing your browser storage or using another browser may mean you are asked again.

You can withdraw permission at any time using Cookie settings below or in the footer. This stops further analytics collection, removes these analytics cookies from this site and reloads the page. It does not delete information already collected. For questions about your information, contact wecouldwonder@gmail.com.

Google processes analytics information on its infrastructure, which may include countries outside the UK. See Google’s privacy policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Email updates and subscription records

Lee Barrett trading as We Could Wonder is responsible for the personal information we use. Our planned email updates will announce new material and merchandise added to the website. Signup is not yet open. It will be optional and separate from financial support; contributing does not enrol you in marketing emails.

If you previously subscribed through MailerLite, it may still hold your subscription and technical records, including consent records, IP addresses and information about email opens and link clicks. See MailerLite’s privacy policy for details of its processing and service providers.

To withdraw consent or ask about deletion of an earlier record, email us. Removing the signup form does not automatically erase records held in MailerLite. We do not sell subscriber details.

To ask for a copy, correction or deletion of your details, or raise a privacy concern, email wecouldwonder@gmail.com. You can also raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.
